ACA Registered Counsellor (Level 2)
Anxiety is often quieter than people expect
It doesn't always look like panic. For many people it's a steady background worry — overthinking at 2am, dreading ordinary things, bracing for something that hasn't happened.
It can show up in your body, your relationships, your ability to concentrate or rest. It can make you avoid things that matter, or push through everything while running on empty.
Counselling is a chance to look at what's behind the anxiety, notice the patterns, and find ways of responding to anxious thoughts that give them less say over what you do.
How I work with anxiety
I'm Deborah Haywood, and I hold a Master of Counselling (University of Canberra) and a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Swinburne). I'm a Level 2 member of the Australian Counselling Association. Based in Sunbury, Victoria, I work with clients across Australia via telehealth. At Reflect Renew Counselling, the work is person-centred: it follows what you bring and moves at a pace you set, rather than through a set programme.
We start with your anxiety as you experience it — when it shows up, what it costs you, and what you've already tried. From there we work out what helps, so anxious thoughts have less say in what you do.
Sessions are calm and practical, with a focus on things you can use between appointments.
What people often bring to anxiety counselling
Anxiety shows up differently for different people. Here are some of the things people describe.
You don't need to be at breaking point to get in touch. Often the best time is when you first notice the pattern.
