Stress that builds slowly is still stress

A lot of people don't think of themselves as stressed — just busy, or stretched, or tired. They're managing, more or less.

Ongoing stress doesn't always feel dramatic. It can be lying awake going through tomorrow's list, snapping at people you love, or getting through the days feeling numb, behind, or quietly resentful of everything you've said yes to.

Counselling is a chance to look at what's driving the pressure, and work out changes that are realistic for your life.

How I work with stress

Deborah Haywood, counsellor at Reflect Renew Counselling

I'm Deborah Haywood, a Level 2 Australian Counselling Association member with a Master of Counselling (University of Canberra) and a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Swinburne). Based in Sunbury, Victoria, I work with clients across Australia via telehealth. My approach is practical and collaborative: less about what you think you should be doing, more about what's realistic in the life you have.

The work is person-centred. Together we look at what's driving the pressure and work out ways of responding that hold up in real life.

The aim is a life that's more manageable.

What people often bring to stress counselling

Stress looks different for everyone, but these come up a lot.

Sustained pressure at work — including roles with high responsibility or little support
Juggling caring responsibilities alongside employment and other commitments
Feeling permanently behind, no matter how much you do
A body that is holding the stress — tension, fatigue, headaches, poor sleep
Irritability or emotional flatness that has crept in over time
The sense of having lost yourself in everything you have to manage
Burnout that has been building for longer than you've admitted
Finding it hard to say no — or to know what to put first

You don't need to be at breaking point to get in touch. It's usually easier to make changes before then.

How sessions work

All sessions are held online via video call — no travel, no waiting rooms, and no need to take half a day off for an appointment.

1

Choose your starting point

Start with a free 15-minute Fit Call, or book a session straight away. Either is fine.

2

Meet online, from wherever you are

Sessions are online, so you can talk from home or anywhere private. You pick the time that fits your schedule.

3

Work out what's driving it, and what might help

Sessions are practical: we look at what's behind the stress and the realistic options for doing something about it.

It doesn't have to stay this hard

The free Fit Call is 15 minutes, with no obligation — a chance to ask questions and see whether it feels right.

Counselling sessions also available.

One-to-one counselling for all ages · $90 standard session (60 min) · Seven days a week
