Change is often harder than it looks
Not every change is a crisis. But even a change you wanted can leave you unsettled — the old life doesn't fit any more, and the new one hasn't taken shape yet.
Sometimes transitions arrive by choice: a career shift, a move, a decision to leave a relationship. Sometimes they're handed to you: a redundancy, a health change, the end of a caring role, a child leaving home. Either way, not knowing quite who you are now, or what you want next, is hard to sit with on your own.
Counselling is a place to make sense of what's changing, work out what matters to you now, and think about what to do next.
How I work with change
I'm Deborah Haywood, and I hold a Master of Counselling (University of Canberra) and a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Swinburne University). I'm a Level 2 member of the Australian Counselling Association. Based in Sunbury, Victoria, I work with clients across Australia via telehealth. My approach is collaborative and person-centred: we look at what matters to you, what's changed, and what a realistic way forward looks like from where you are now.
We make room for what's been lost, and we also look at what still matters to you and how to move towards it — even if the way ahead isn't clear yet. You set the direction; I help you think it through.
You don't need to have it all figured out. The aim is a bit more clarity about what's next.
Transitions people often bring to counselling
Change takes many forms. These are some of the life transitions I commonly work with.
You don't need to be in crisis. If you're somewhere between the life you had and the one you want, that's reason enough to get in touch.
How sessions work
All sessions are held online via video call — no commute, no waiting rooms. You can talk from home or anywhere that feels private.
Choose your starting point
You don't need to know exactly what you're looking for before you begin. A free 15-minute Fit Call is a good starting point — or you can book a Standard Session directly if you're ready.
